FUNCTION The wattmetric relay W 22-1 measures the voltage (V) and the current in the line (I), besides it computes the cosφ and the ACTIVE POWER as product of: W = 1,73 V I cosφ USE The electric motor is the most common load to be controlled by an active power relay. The active power supplied to the motor gives the direct information of the instant load of the motor itself. Such information is more accurate than the one given by the current value. As a matter of fact the cosφ variations may change the power value without affecting the current value.
